Lady Lobos blow-out Lamar 88-28

Advance to area

It was a much anticipated game, this past Tuesday, for the Lady Lobos basketball team, their first play-off game since 2008.  They came out aggressive early on, forcing Lamar into many turnovers that resulted in easy transition buckets.

“We definitely came out with a lot of intensity,” Coach Steward said.

The Lady Lobos press was relentless, paving the way to a dominant 35-5 lead after the 1st quarter.

“The game plan has kind of been the same for this team throughout the whole year; come out, play hard-nose defense,” Steward said.

That defensive dominance, and intensity continued in the 2nd quarter in which the lobos outscored Lamar 16-10.  Up 51-15 at the half, the Lady Lobos carried momentum, and the confidence into the half.

The 3rd quarter was more of the same as the Lady Lobos extended their lead to 44, up 68-24 after 3 quarters.  All the while, during the game all of the players played substantial minuets and got to experience play-offs for the 1st time.

“For the seniors they’ve been putting in 4 years of hard work, and to finally get to play-offs, I know it meant a lot to them,” Steward said.

What enhanced the dominance, was the Lady Lobos shooting 27-31 from the free-throw line, or 87%.

“We work on free-throws every day… so I’m very proud of that,” Steward said.

In the end, the Lobos blew-out Lamar 88-28 advancing to the area round of play-offs, pitting the Lady Lobos against Fort Bend Hightower on Thursday.

“Overall they did excellent… they gave it one hundred percent, and played as hard as they could,” Steward said.
