It’s Rodeo Time Again!

The smell of hot, freshly popped, kettle corn makes its way through the air. Barbecue and the smell of fried food makes your mouth water. This is when you realize the Rodeo is back baby!

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the biggest and most visited rodeos in the nation. On average around 2.5 million people attend the festivities annually which is in the top 5 in the nation. So what is it that keeps bringing more and more people to the rodeo every year?

“For me what keeps bringing me back has got to be the food,” senior Kurt Todd said.

Kurt said he has been to the rodeo five out of the last six years and that, while everything at rodeo is fun, it is the food that he looks forward to every time.

“There is not one certain food that is better than the rest, and that is part of the fun,” Kurt said.

He explained how all the food is good and that part of the fun is the competition between each place to see whos is better. The only downside to the food besides the fact that they are all calorie bombs is that they also are pretty overpriced. The food prices can range anywhere from 5 dollars for some fried oreos to 15 dollars for a sausage link. Regardless of the price, the food is bound to be good. The food is not all that people go to or else that would defeat the whole point of a “rodeo.” Some people, like senior Isabelle Wilkins, like to go for the concerts.

“I have gone to the rodeo every year for as long as I can remember and every year there is a great concert,” Isabelle said.

In the past Isabelle has gone to see Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Tim Mcgraw. This year she went to see Rascal Flatts on March 5th.

“They have great vocals and can really hit all the notes,” Isabelle said.

Isabelle said that this year they were a really fun group to watch and were very entertaining in their presentation. Unlike Isabelle some people, like junior Jaime Ramirez, just went for the first time this year.

“I did not really know what to expect. I had heard that there was fun stuff but overall I think what made it so fun was just the all around experience of it,” Jaime said.

Jaime said that he did not really care for all the other concerts and rides, he believes that the best part of the rodeo is just feeling the excitement in the air and having a good time with friends.

The rodeo is coming to a close so get out there while you can!
