It’s in our nature as humans to find out what we wish to pursue and what we enjoy. Although it sounds simple, many lose sight of trying to explore all their talents because we forget we still have time to grow. Natalie Say is a sophomore here at Langham and decided to tackle both Bailadoras and Band at once. The best of both worlds; She can do it all.
Bailadoras is the most awarded drill team in CFISD. Entering this organization, she knew how much was at stake, although her heart still stayed persistent with the Band. Why does one have to pick when you have the ability to do it all?
“I found love in doing both and knew I couldn’t just choose one, I had to do both. I knew it would be time-consuming but I committed and always thought of how lucky I was to do both instead of complaining, so overall it was amazing,” Say said.
During the Fall season, both organizations are in their prime. Football season is something to look forward to because every game, both perform. So how does it work? How was she able to do both when the expectations were so high?
“I would go to the games as a Bailadora and during halftime, I was handed my instrument to march after the ‘bdora’ performance, then usually I would go to the band section and play stand tunes then head back to the ‘bdora’ stands around the school song at the end of a game,” Say said.
It’s impressive for anyone to be able to achieve this, but for Say to still have two more years left and still steadfast is inspiring. Continuing with both she knew there would be a risk of missing out, but it was a risk she was willing to take.
“I didn’t like the fact that I was missing out on some aspects of both because I wasn’t there all the time,” Say said. “I definitely did feel like I was missing out sometimes but I chose to do both and I knew that that would happen.”
Regardless, she hopes that her journey will inspire others to follow their heart and that anything is possible if you are willing to dedicate yourself.
“ I think you have to be very dedicated to do both, and if someone else is willing to put in the effort to do both, they should definitely do it,” Say said. “This season was accomplished, exciting, hardworking.”
