As the 2023-2024 year wraps up, seniors are getting ready for college and to begin the rest of their lives.
Many seniors are in organizations and programs that they will leave behind, like choir. Just because they are leaving the music organization behind doesn’t mean the music will be leaving them. So what will these choir seniors do beyond high school? Will the song go on?
“Music has always been a huge part of my life ever since I was little,” senior Eleanor Ponder said. “It has helped me choose that I wanted to be a part of the ‘Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band’ next year at A&M.”
After finding a home in music early on, Ponder decided it would be her future. Even though singing and playing an instrument are two different forms of music, it is important that she grows in her musicianship.
“{Choir and theater} are kind of like a home away from home,” senior Kendahl Lemons said. “It gives me something to do while also having fun and being productive and learning.”
Having had a good experience in both choir and theater, Lemons has decided to go on and pursue a career in Musical Theater. What once was uncertainty and confusion on her future plans, music has helped Lemons solidify her desire to continue on with the fine arts.
“I hope I become able to teach other people to love and enjoy music,” senior Fernando Castellon said. “So everyone can be their own person when it comes to music.”
Inspired by his older brother and his love for music, Castellon desires to be a Music major, later becoming a Choral Director. However, his biggest hope is to pass on music and see others fall in love with it like he did.
Though not all will continue on in singing, the music will continue in them. The song might not sound the same, but it will go on.
