A new start in an unfamiliar place with many more people. A new place with many more requirements and work. A new year that is also the most important year. Now, it is almost the end of the school year, and all the freshmen have thoughts about their first year in high school that are worthy to be remembered as they become sophomores.
“If we enjoyed it? For me, a little, like kind of,” freshman Hugo Villalon said. “It was okay, I feel like it could’ve been better though.”
Everyone knows high school is tough. Having a bigger load of assignments, keeping up with your grades, having to calculate your GPA to make sure it’s good enough, and the transition of going into a college prep school. Some thoughts are unexpected, though.
“I thought it would be more stressful and hard,” freshman Gabriela Obregon said. “But it gradually got easier and easier.”
All the freshmen had something different to say about their start of high school.
“It was okay, there’s just things that I wished I could change,” freshman Isaac Bradshaw said. “Like, I wished I did more things in the first semester. I also wished I met more people, too. That would’ve made going by this year a lot easier.”
Fortunately, even though it was a tough year, there were still many amazing memories made. High school is all about testing your limits and seeking new experiences that open up an idea of a potential new goal for the future. Good memories can open students up to new ideas.
“Let me think, wait, actually I do have a favorite memory,” freshman Kyleigh Sanders said. “It was definitely the time in Spanish when Mrs. Nunez gave us hot chocolate last year. It was great.”
Different classes inspire different goals with different rewards. A first year can never be better without a good memory.
“I actually have a whole bunch of different favorite memories,” freshman Madelyn Flisram said. “But one must be that time my class watched The Monkey King. It was like a children’s show.”
A whole year of difficult starts, ups and downs, but also more space to make more decisions. All one memory for one year. Moving towards the end of the school year, the freshmen have a lot to ponder about as they move towards the next stage of high school.
“It took me a few weeks to adjust, but once I did it wasn’t bad at all,” Obregon said. “I really liked this year and I think everything could be a favorite memory this year.”
There are many freshmen, each of them with a different view on this new school year. Soon, they will all become sophomores. Get ready, freshmen. A new chapter is about to start.
