Major school changes
To start off the new school year, major changes have been introduced for students and teachers alike; ID cards, an extra 15 minutes to the school day, and a new doctor’s note policy will be implemented in the coming year.
The ID card policy (which was implemented at Cy- Falls last year and has been implemented at schools across the state and country) will be implemented at Langham in the coming weeks. The cards will be used for many actions in the school like buying lunch, getting into the school, and for signing into tardy sweep.
“The badges come with a lot of benefits. You just swipe your card to get lunch or breakfast and obviously there is the safety benefit. You know a student is actually a student,” Principal David Hughes said.
The extra 15 minute policy was decided by officials at the state level. It was implemented as a way to have extra days, in case of a natural disaster (flooding, ice on the roads, hurricanes, etc.). Instead of tacking on extra days to the school year, administrators decided to add extra minutes to the school day to compensate. The school day will start at 7:20 and end at 2:40 this year.
The new doctors note policy will heavily impact exemptions. While doctor’s notes previously didn’t count against exemptions, they will start doing so this school year.
