Handing out fliers, giving advice, and networking with students around the district, representatives from all across the country came together to promote higher education opportunities at this past college night.
CFISD’s College night is a yearly event held at the Berry Center that gives high school students the opportunity to speak to representatives from various colleges across the country to grant further clarity in the college-seeking and application process.
The event was lively, with hundreds of students and parents in attendance. Before the event started, there was a line that wrapped around the building with students and parents waiting dutifully.
Upon entering the main hall, guests are met with various representatives for scholarship and accessibility programs.
Once further in, the event spills out into two main auditorium rooms filled with colorfully decorated stands for various colleges, including in-state universities like A&M, University of Houston, University of Texas, Rice, and Baylor along with universities across the country like Harvard, University of Maryland, and Pepperdine.
Students could come up to any given stand and speak to the school’s representative about what programs are offered, what is looked for in the application process, and any additional questions a student or parent might have.
Prior to attendance, students had the opportunity to become registered with the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO), which yielded them a bard code they could have any given college representative scan to place them on a mailing list for information regarding the college of their interest.
Each stand also provided informational packets that students or parents could take to learn about the college.
