POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!
Disney’s movie, Moana 2, has finally made its way to the big screen and it has mixed reviews.
In the first Moana, we were taken on an adventure with Moana to return the heart of Tafiti. In the sequel Moana receives a message from ‘Tautai Vasa’, a navigator ancestor who died while trying to break the curse of Motufetū. He tasks her with finishing his journey and reuniting the people of the ocean once more. The filmmakers set this movie up in a way that had you wondering what was about to happen next.
If you thought Moana had a hard time in the first movie, you should see her now. Forced with a harder task than last time, Moana recruits a crew of islanders to help. Some viewers say that having Moana recruit a team was ‘sloppy’ and ‘a lazy attempt to get the story moving’. However, considering this a movie for children, having Moana recruit a team was a great idea. It highlights the importance of asking for help and working with a team which is a great lesson for the children watching.
Throughout the movie, Moana is faced with many challenges such as monsters, insecurities, curses, and a lot more. While there was a lot happening, it was not too overwhelming, but instead kept the audience glued to their seats. Everyone in the theater was entertained, not just the kids.
Though I liked the movie, I’ve seen other people online saying that there shouldn’t have even been a second movie. I will not lie, when I heard there was a second movie I was confused how they were going to pull it off when the first movie had such a great ending. However, the creators did a great job at giving the second movie meaning. There are a lot more lessons for kids to learn from this movie than the first one. Not only that, this movie was far much funnier than the first. The little jokes that the creators snuck in there definitely had the audience laughing.
All in all, I would rate the second movie a 9/10. While I did like the movie, there was a lot going on and so many new characters. At times, it got confusing to remember the names Moana was referring to. If a third movie were to be released, I would definitely watch it.
