As the track team finished their last meet on April 2nd, the 2024-2025 track season came to an end. Throughout the season, athletes have showcased their skills, set new goals for themselves, and broke new records.
“For this season, we did really well, my athletes did a wonderful job during all the meets, and we broke the school record for the four-by-fours,” Coach Thomas Lang said. “My athletes had been training really hard as well.”
This year many new athletes had decided to pursue track, and track runners from last year have come back to continue and even step up into new teams.
“During the beginning of the school year I was in junior varsity, but then later on I got moved to varsity,” sophomore Gavin Bridges said. “It was a very fast transition, but I was able to adjust over a while.”
Freshman Rebecca Lopez on the other hand made a huge transition from middle school to high school track.
“It’s been going well since joining high school track,” Lopez said. “It’s really different from middle school track, but it’s still good though, the coaches here are really nice. You get pushed to work more and to be more precise.”
For the track team this year, not only has it been a great season, but it has also been a season full of unforgettable memories.
“It has been a great season working with these athletes,” Lang said. “I feel like I’ve been able to have a great bond with all my athletes, not just athletically but emotionally as well. It’s been great getting to grow with them as well throughout the season.”
Despite having a few difficulties throughout the season, athletes have been able to find ways to persevere through.
“My biggest challenge this season was overthinking going over the hurdles,” Lopez said. “Instead of focusing on the jumping, I would try to slow down, and focus more on running instead of the hurdle, and it does help.”
Wrapping up the season, the track team was able to give their best every day, as well as aiming to do the best they could.
“I hope to push them to be the best they can be and to have a championship mindset as they do track,” Lang said. “I want them to be the best version of themselves every day, and for my seniors I appreciate all the hard work they have done, and it’s been a pleasure working with them. I will truly miss them.”
