Upcoming Madrigal
Choir hosts their traditional Madrigal Feast for the twenty-second year. It is the only school from the entire district that does this special event.
The Madrigal Feast is an annual holiday celebration hosted by the choir department each year.
The students dress up and perform a show while the audience gets to enjoy a dinner with a renaissance flare.
The tickets cost $25 for a Saturday or Sunday evening with a fine dinner. If the price is a little bit too high, the choir has decided to make it more affordable and have a show where they serve you tea and biscuits for $15 on Sunday afternoon. They have unfortunately stopped selling pre-seating tickets on the eleventh of November. Still, if you do not want to eat at all you can get into the show for free on the fifth of December. This is an event you would want to get your tickets early for because they usually sell out as this is a well known event.
“Typically we don’t need to advertise because tickets tend to sell out,” director Andrea Loer said.
The audience gets to eat a quality dinner from Spring Creek Barbecue. The meal is set up with a renaissance theme to it. This year the actual show will be separated from the dinner. The choir has decided to add more performances into the dinner part of the show.
“I have tried the food from Spring Creek and have heard from others as well that it’s really good,” junior Jocelyn Sanchez said.
The students put many hours of work into Madrigal Feast. This is something they have been practicing for since the beginning of the school year. They stay after school and practice at home as well. The directors train them in special techniques. The students even go as far as to buy or make their own costume for the show.
“I feel like a lot of people don’t really know the length what the choir does,” junior Madison McCarthy said. “They don’t see what goes on behind the scenes.”
Each choir gets a chance to do something different. Chamber Choir gets to be a part of the Royal Court. Advanced Women and some lucky beginning choir girls get to be “wenches” and serve you the food. The wenches even interact with the audience by insulting them lightly. The rest of the choirs can audition for some random roles they choose. A unique aspect about the show is that each person in the choir gets to interact with the audience in their own way.
“I think it’d be a good experience,” junior Riley Griffin said. “It definitely interested me into the choir program and I even get to do the opening speech.”
This is a great thing to show up to because you get the feel of actually being in the renaissance.
“It’s something new,” Sanchez said. “People don’t really see shows like this. Shows that take you back in time. People have the renaissance festival but this is the place where everything is decorated and you’re in this mood. Also, it’s close to home.”
