New School Accountability Ratings
The Langham Creek Accountability System grade is being changed. The school was formerly graded as a college would be, with numbers and statistics. These are now being traded out for a new type of grading system familiar to students, a letter grade.
It works similarly to how students are graded in their classes. The school is assessed in a range of categories that contribute to an overall percentage of the grade. It is then assigned a letter, “A” being the best, “F” being the worst.
The assessed categories include Student Achievement, Student Progress, Closing the Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness. Closing the Gaps has to do with closing achievement gaps for students and Postsecondary Readiness involves the graduation, absenteeism, and dropout rate of the school. Student Achievement is based off of STAAR test results, and Student Progress compares the student’s former STAAR test grade to their current STAAR results.
“It’s not being implemented yet,” principal secretary Delia Baker said.
The definitive ranking should be out by August 2018. A rough idea of the ranking should be out soon based on last year’s reports.
“I think that Langham would get like a C-,” senior Zachary Woerpel said.
In comparison to the schools around us, such as Cy-Falls, Cy-Lakes, and Cy-Ranch, there are mixed opinions on how we measure up.”
“We’re probably a little above average,” freshman Celeste Nguyen said. She decided that the school deserved a “B.”
The results of the ranking should be subject to change.
