There are many clubs here, one example is the Teens Read Club. A club for anyone, but especially appealing to those who love to relax with a good book.
Although Teens Read Club has always been recognized as a club to students, most don’t know that the status renews every year. The members of Teens Read need help finding more members. All clubs need at least 10 members to be considered a club.
“The president Jocelyn is always busy since she’s a senior, on the girl’s soccer team, and is taking a whole bunch of DC classes,” Vice President of Teens Read Club Heidi Chance said. “So I want to help her find more members, and with my role as VP, I have the power to do that.”
Teens Read has a very simple yearly structure, which is beneficial for students who want experience being in a club but don’t want too much on their plate at the same time. It is made for students who want to learn but also have fun.
“In the first semester, you can read as many and how many books as you want,” Chance said. “But in the second semester, we vote on a poll where all members put their top one or two books. We review the most popular choices and then read those.”
The good thing about Teens Read is that even for those with busy schedules, they can still join and not be booted from the club even if they don’t put much time into it. It doesn’t require too much time and is a relaxing and chill club made to work around time and pace.
“I’ve been in this club since freshman year,” Chance said. “During 9th grade, I wasn’t very active. However, during sophomore year, I was a lot more involved.”
Teens Read may seem like it’s just all reading and books, but it can also help boost your mind and get it into studying mode, which some students struggle with.
“This is a reading club with a study partnership with other clubs,” Chance said. “It has a partnership with Learn and Lead, and others. So even if you aren’t interested in the reading part, you can just come to study.”
While the club doesn’t offer volunteer opportunities, the memories you can make compensate for that. It can also help with future goals as well.
“It is a good thing to put on my resume,” Chance said. “It will definitely help me for college. The position is a good bonus too.”
Teens Read is expected to meet once a month. If you wish to get any position in the club, you sign a form and the rest depends on if you are a good fit for the club. Lobos, especially those who love to read, please consider this an invitation and help Teens Read by joining!
