As basketball season gets underway, Varsity Basketball players Jaxson Leonard and Hector Durand are working hard to find their rhythm and build chemistry both on and off the court. Players say the start of the year has been promising, but there’s still room to grow as they prepare for the rest of the season.
Durand, junior, feels confident about his performance so far. Reflecting on the recent tournament, Durand described it as “a good experience” for the team to start connecting.
“It was cool, we are just now really getting the feel of the chemistry with the team,” Durand said.
The team faced off against Houston Christian and Klein, and although they didn’t play as well as they hoped, Durand said everyone “gave their best effort.”
Individually, Durand said he wants to improve by having more of a mentor to guide him through the season. As for team improvements, he believes developing “more strategy between the team” will help them perform better.
Before games, Durand likes to get in the zone by listening to music but also practicing with his teammates.
“I’m excited to play with my friends this season,” Durand said.
Leonard, senior, shared similar ideas on the team’s start, but had his own thoughts.
“I feel pretty good because I’ve personally done better this year,” Leonard said.
He admitted the recent tournament “could’ve been a lot better,” explaining that it’s still early in the season.
Leonard said “communication will be key” for improving as a team, while personally, he hopes to focus on “staying organized.”
As a senior, Leonard said he’s feeling “sad, but excited” for his final season, knowing it marks the end of an important chapter.
With new goals and growing chemistry, these players are ready to take on the challenges of the season together.
