Senior Sunrise is a special event for seniors and it’s as simple as it sounds. Seniors get to be outside and watch the sunrise with their friends.
“Outside there were picnic blankets laid out,” senior Azucena Figueroa said. “And you sit with your friends, talk, socialize, and make memories.”
There was food and drinks provided, but Figueroa and her friends decided to each bring their own food so they could eat it together.
“I had to get up early to cook,” Figueroa said. “All my friends said we should all bring a dish to share.”
Some seniors were disappointed, because the senior fee was expensive even though their expectations weren’t met during the event.
“I like hanging out with my friends,” Figueroa said. “But was it worth 125 dollars? I don’t think so.”
Seniors looking forward to watching the sunrise were disappointed due to the lack of an actual sunrise.
“It was so humid and dark outside,” senior Rona Swain said. “It was more like ‘Senior-No Sun’, but at least we got to skip a small chunk of school to be with friends.”
But even though Swain didn’t like the state of the weather, she agrees it was still a memorable experience.
“You get to be outside, socialize with friends, and be on your phone to take pictures.” Swain said.
A majority of the seniors agreed that the people they surrounded themselves with impacted the experience more.
“I don’t think you should go if you’re alone,” Figueroa said. “It’s better to go with a big group of friends.”
Many seniors agreed that the event was a bittersweet moment. They got to make lasting memories with people they may or may not see again after high school, and they got to catch up with friends and people from their classes.
