Koala Kolache
If you can imagine it Koala Kolache has probably made it, from ice cream stuffed donuts to kolaches filled with everything from pepperoni pizza to macaroni and cheese.Located on FM 529, just across Langham. It’s the spot to be.
“I go there all the time,” sophomore April Martinez said. “The food is really good and the workers are very nice, It’s always packed.”
Owner Vatsana Souvannavong moved to Houston from Los Angeles and she a had never heard of a kolache before.
“They reminded me of dinner rolls “ said Souvannavong “It’s totally a Texas thing”.
She took over the business that was originally owned by her in-laws.
“It was an existing bakery before,” Souvannavong said. “It was actually my husband’s family. His parents were running the shop and we wanted them to retire.”
When she was creating her signature kolache, she did her research and realized she wanted to do something different.
“I tasted the kolaches around Houston and Cypress,” Souvannavong said. “They all tasted the same, too much dough and not enough meat. We decided to do something different, you know, we said let’s just focus on kolache vs donut.”
That’s exactly what they’ve done.
“The kolache is my favorite thing,” sophomore Isaiah Denson said. “Their service is really good.”
Not only do they care about the quality of the food but also the importance of good customer service.
“Thats one thing I’m very big on is customer service,” Souvannavong said. “ Nowadays you can’t go into a restaurant and get treated like a family. I feel like when people enter into business, they forget about that and it’s really depressing. We feel that our customers make us who we are and we want them to feel like family, whether it’s their first time here or their hundredth.”
Its no wonder so many Langham Creek students love this place.
“I’ve been there a few times,” junior Keyasia Minor said. “The sprinkle covered donut is my favorite.”
