Lacrosse 2017

The lacrosse team is fairly new to our clubs program, but the boys are playing like old pros. Two games deep into their district season, they carry a 2-0 record.

“We’re so much better than last year,” sophomore Austin Alvarado said. “I love looking back and reflecting on how far we’ve come.”

But what’s the secret? How have they gotten so good so quick?

A coach can teach technique, but he can’t teach drive. Whether everyday practice or the biggest game of the season, the boys give lacrosse 100% effort. They spend 2 hours a day, 6 days a week practicing their skills and preparing for weekly games.

“Our practices are really paying off,”  sophomore Tyler Johnson said. “ They are always very fun, and we do our best to equally involve everyone. We are doing our best to earn a playoff spot.”

Team chemistry is key. The boys are a very tight knit group of friends, and many of them play on the same club team, Legacy Lacrosse, outside of school. Between practices at school and practices with club, the team is together constantly, which offers lots of time for team bonding.

“I think one of the reasons we got so good is because of the friendships we have outside of the sport,” Alvarado said. “Getting to play with my friends is one of my favorite parts of it all.”

The team is looking forward to a challenging season. In addition to their scheduled games, they also played in a tournament in Austin in January.

Since lacrosse is not considered a sport at Langham, it is often left under appreciated. This season, the team could use some support and school spirit. Come out to support them at their next game at Klein High School on February 16th.
