Indianapolis Band Trip
From the illustrious music halls to the archival Indianapolis capitol, the band’s quintet and percussion ensemble had quite the time this Spring Break. They were able to go on the trip thanks to their stellar performance earlier this year, putting on a spectacular show in Indianapolis and taking time for some fun for themselves.
“The purpose of the trip was to perform and celebrate in a national music festival coordinated by Music For All as a way to spread the joy of music and music education.” junior french horn player Jared Tu said.
The group played in the Chamber Music National Festival, one of 59 ensembles chosen from all across the country to attend the event. There, they met some of the most renowned music educators and got to participate in masterclasses and networking events.
“I loved it. It was a learning experience musically, a lot of fun, and it was fascinating to be part of a large community that shared a common passion,” Tu said.
“I liked it a lot, just to be surrounded by music,” sophomore percussionist Michael Hernandez said.
In their spare time, the ensemble got together and traveled about the city. They went to music related museums, the capitol, and enjoyed leisure time.
“It felt more individual and less rigorously scheduled,” Tu said. “We were free to do more things as a smaller group than what a large band could do.”
In the end, after a wondrous performance and a lot of fun in the city, the band is looking forward to yet another great year filled with music.
