UIL Academic State Qualifier
In this year’s Journalism UIL contest, one of our staff members, Caroline Adami had progressed to the state level of the competition at Austin in Editorial Writing.
First entering at District with a second place win in Editorial, Caroline a fresh reporter from our staff had gone to compete against all the other Texas schools journalists in our district and then went on to regionals winning another 2nd place and then state.
“Even though I didn’t place in State, it was a good experience and I’ve learned a lot to help for me the future,” sophomore Caroline Adami said.
Her road to getting all the way to state was phenomenal and only happens once in a generation.
“I think my regional story was the best story out of the whole competition. I just had a lot of fun with it so I wouldn’t say skill but I had a lot of fun but maybe a little bit of luck had come my way,” Adami said.
Journalism adviser, Mr. James Ricks was impressed by her determination that led her to success.
“In my experience for students as well as anybody, it all depends on the student’s determination and dedication to what they want to do,” Mr. Ricks said. “Caroline has excelled and tried the best she could when it came to scheduling conflicts and overall just finding a way to practice and get better upon her entering the competition. If she continues to do that, then I have a very good feeling that she’ll betting back to state next year.”
Of course entering this competition is no easy task, you have to practice and practice to become a good writer and that includes anything that could possibly happen, whether it’s the prompt or even technical difficulties upon the technology that could occur.
Nonetheless, congratulations Caroline.
I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.
