Seniors Perform Swan Lake with the Houston Repertoire Ballet
The Houston Repertoire Ballet’s Celebration of Dance on April 29-30th, included senior dancers Elizabeth Cermak, Sarah Cermak, and Andreina Hurtado. They performed Act II of the classic Swan Lake, with a premiere of Racketty- Packetty House.
Sisters Elizabeth and Sarah Cermark have been dancing for 13 years. They are both Commended National Merit Scholars and have performed many different roles with the Ballet Center of Houston.
“My favorite performances have been the Dewdrop Fairy & Russian bon bon in The Nutcracker, Wili in Giselle, and Four Little Swans in Swan Lake”, said Sarah Cermak.
Though the sisters love dance they say it’s more of a hobby. In the Fall, Elizabeth plans on attending the University of Oklahoma to study business, Sarah who will be attending the same college, plans to study advertising or marketing.
Andreina Hurtado has also been dancing with the Ballet Center of Houston for 13 years. She has performed as a Russian and Mouse Queen in The Nutcracker, as well as a Rustic in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Hurtado is originally from Venezuela, but has lived in Texas most of her life. In the fall, she will attend the University of Texas, she plans to double major in dance and nutrition, with a goal of attending medical school to become a registered dietitian.
The Houston Repertoire Ballet is having another production this May.
HRBs Choreography Project on May 20th will present works created by Hurtado and the Cermak sisters. The project was created to discover, mentor and give artistic voice to future choreographers, Tickets are available at the door or online at www.hrbdance.org.
