Is ‘It’ Worth Watching?
The movie It was recently released, just in time to get in the mood for the Fall season, but is the movie really worth watching?
Most critics loved the movie and gave it high ratings (IMDB is 7.8/10 and Rotten Tomatoes 85.5%). The movie even managed to break box office records by an impressive $117.7 million dollars.
It is a movie adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most popular books that takes place in the late 80’s. It involves 7 misfit kids uniting together in an attempt to get rid of the clown, Pennywise, who has haunted their town for so many centuries.
Overall, the movie was good, but it could’ve done better.
Despite the movie It being a horror movie, the directors managed to throw in some lines that made It funny at times. The movie also managed to steer away or use minimal scare tactics that most horror movies use such as jump scares.
The pre-teen actors did a great job in their roles. They really conveyed that genuine feeling of fear whenever they encountered Pennywise. You also get the sense of the close bond they managed to form throughout their time filming the movie as they join together on this journey to take down this horrific looking clown.
On the other hand, the clown, Pennywise, was okay at times. Pennywise is supposed to be a clown that lures in children to eat them, but I’m sure that if anyone saw Pennywise walking down the street they would be sprinting the other way and not following him into a sewer. Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgård, did a great job of instilling fear in the children and the audience.
This movie adaptation also has a large amount of gore and swear words. You see these young adults dealing with bullies, sexually abuse, severe injuries, and death.
It does a great job of sending shivers down your spine at times and giving you the creeps. So, if you just so happen to be terrified of clowns or are sensitive when it comes to gore, sexual abuse or bullying, this movie is not for you.
Overall, I’d have to give It a 7.5/10
