A Golden Superstar
We have a local superstar and hopeful future NFL player here on our school’s football team. Senior Golden Eke, the wide receiver for the varsity football team who wears #3, draws a lot of attention because of his talent. He’s often referred to on campus as the “Golden Child.”
“I started playing football in the street when I was like 4 years old with my older brothers all the time,” Eke said. “My junior year when I got my very first offer was when I realized I can be real good at this and actually take it to another level.”
A lot of football players have reasons on why they play football or if they’re playing for someone or if they’re just playing because they have something to prove.
“I’m playing football because I love the game a lot, it’s like my second home, actually my first home if you ask me,” Eke said. “I don’t really have to prove myself to anyone because I know what I can do, and if I have to prove myself to people then I wouldn’t really be focusing on myself. But I’m actually playing for my parents and family so they don’t have to work anymore.”
Eke draws his inspiration from his favorite player who doesn’t even play in the NFL today.
“Chad Johnson, he played with so much swag and confidence he was also very aggressive and that’s what I really liked about him.” Eke said.
Golden is not the only one who thinks he can actually be good at this football thing, his best friend Ahmad Young Jr. who is also his teammate think he’s very good at what he does.
“We’ve been on the same team for four years now playing side by side, it’s been very fun at practice having him on the same team. But don’t get it wrong we always compete for the most yards every game so it’s also competitive,” Young said.
It seems like Eke and Young are very competitive with each other as they push each other to become better everyday.
“His work ethic is top of the line, he works hard everyday at practice and it translates over to the game,” Young said. “Even if he’s having a bad game he’s not going to get mad and stop trying, thats what makes him go harder. It’s been crazy seeing him evolve and blow up like this because I’ve been right by his side the whole time as all these offers are coming.”
Not only do Eke’s teammates think he is very good at football, but his large fan base here at the school are very supportive of him. US History teacher Dr. Huntington loves watching Golden play on the field since his 10th grade year.
“He comes in the class everyday ready to work and he does all his work on time, he is a pleasure to have in class because he is going to make the class brighten up,” Dr. Huntington said.
Dr. Huntington and his excitement at seeing Eke excelling out on the field is amazing.
“He is amazing on the football field, not a lot of young high school kids have his talent and his hard working skills. It’s very good to see him out there playing so great,” Dr.Huntington said.
Goldens wide receiver coach, Coach Trahan, has been very good to Golden these four years giving him great advice. Asking him what is the best thing about Golden’s football ability his response shocked me.
“I think his size is one of his biggest advantages of the game, also his ability to jump the way he does is very crazy, he jumps so high it’s like he’s floating. He is growing and growing by the year.”
Golden Eke has a lot of fans and support, and it seems like he is making a lot of people in the Cy-Fair community happy. The Langham Creek football team is also 7-0 and has already clinched a playoff spot, they’re on the road to state.
