AFJROTC Join MLK March

The AFJROTC program participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. March in downtown Houston.

“The march is a great event and I enjoy it a lot,” sophomore Flight Commander/Second Lieutenant Joey Welsh said.

Every year, AFJROTC marches one mile in the parade to join in on a positive cause.

“We march to honor the legacy of MLK,” sophomore Chase Talbot said.

This event also helps to benefit the image of the ROTC program.

“It creates an opportunity,” Talbot said. “Others can see what the program is like and we get to represent the school in a positive way to the city.”

Many of the students in AFJROTC are enthusiastic about getting the chance to participate in the event each year.

“My favorite part about the march is seeing all the happy people who enjoy watching the parade,” Welsh said.

The students in AFJROTC also got the chance to see some notable figures when they marched in the parade.

“I saw the Houston Chief of Police, Art Acevedo, while we were there,” sophomore Britain Pitts said.

The MLK march continues to be a great, exciting experience for the program each year, and gives students a way to represent the school and program.

“I’m really glad to be apart of it,” Welsh said. “I’m looking forward to marching next year.”
