Tunes Review: Lauv
The song I Like Me Better by Lauv has been racking up millions of views across YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music. Lauv has been on the music scene since his 2014 debut single The Other and despite not being signed to a label, has managed to climb his way up the charts. Catchy lyrics, sweet meanings, and smooth melodies are just a few of the factors that make Lauv’s songs so re-playable.
Ari Staprans Leff (stage name Lauv) grew up in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Lauv was only 14-years-old when he developed his outstanding talent for songwriting. Long before Lauv ever experienced a breakup, he was writing songs about them. During high school Lauv was involved in local bands before eventually moving on to electronic music and attending New York University, majoring in music technology.
The song I Like Me Better is essentially about being in a relationship where though you’re not entirely sure of yourself, you’re 100% sure of your relationship. The chorus of the song repeats the line “I like me better when I’m with you” suggesting that sometimes, being around your significant other can bring out the best in you. “I might get to talking too much, I might have to tell you something,” sings Lauv.
Lauvs experienced songwriting background has definitely played a role in his successful music career. Lauv has written songs alongside the likes of Demi Lovato, Charli XCX, and even Ed Sheeran, but after 3 years of writing songs for others, he decided to step into the spotlight himself with “I like Me Better.” His style of music can be classified as pop, and his soft, melodic voice is easily distinguishable above other artists.
I would give the song a 7/10.Though the song is a bit generic, it makes as a good mood lifter, and the music video (which has gained over 17 million views on YouTube) is definitely a must watch.

His new song “Superhero” is pretty fire (12th Grade).
