Joshing Around: Apple vs Samsung

It’s been debated for years, and today we continue that debate: Apple vs Samsung. Who is truly the king of smartphones?

Josh Hernandez’s argues-

It is no secret that Samsung has dominated Apple for many years now. Since 2009, Samsung has made the better smartphone. Many people may beg to differ, but the fact of the matter is they’re just wrong.

Samsung offers a better quality display, and a higher resolution screen at 2220×1080, Apple only offers a resolution at 1920×1080. Apple also does not support the “Multi-task” option. On Samsung phones you are able to use multiple applications at once which allows the user to get tasks done faster.

One major reason why Samsung blows Apple away is because of the headphone jack. I mean seriously, who wants to buy $200 dollar headphones that aren’t any better than 30 dollar headphones at Walmart? Whose bright idea was this? Sorry Apple users, y’all take the L on this one.

Should I mention that Apple likes to sell mini bombs? Or I mean, phones that explode. 11 iPhones have exploded in people’s pockets in the past year alone while Samsung has none.

Apple is also too proud of their products. Who wants to pay over 1k on a phone that’s just gonna be slowed down by Apple employees? No thanks Apple. I’ll take my 800 dollar phone that won’t blow up in my pocket.

Josh Kane’s argues-

It’s no surprise Apple has been the dominant company in the smartphone market since 2007, the year they unveiled the iPhone. They’ve managed to sell more than 1 billion iPhones since then, and have raked in 61 billion dollars off of these products in 2018 alone. After looking at those numbers, it’s clear Apple has made itself the king of smartphones, and I especially believe Samsung stands no chance when compared to Apple, and for good reason.

When comparing each companies premier phones, it’s clear Apple has edged them out in recent years, in things like camera performance and it’s software in general. iOS has been fast, reliable, and simple for Apple users. Apple ensures they’re software runs smoothly and is integrated properly. Samsung on the other hand, has to push in it’s features on top of Android’s OS, causing updates to be slow, and ultimately slowing down it’s phones to an extent.

And of course there’s the camera comparisons, with Samsung’s cameras being the object of scrutiny, and memes being made about how bad it’s cameras have been compared to iPhones (which excel in that category each and every year). While Samsung has stepped up it’s camera performance recently with the S9, Apple has still yet to disappoint, especially with the iPhone X’s performance.

I also think that Apple has a broader appeal to the general population, with it’s simple, yet feature-heavy phones being used by so many people these days, making it convenient for most young people, and easy for even the elderly to use. On the other hand, I feel that while Samsung’s android devices have a lot to offer, they mostly only appeal to tech-savvy people wanting more flexibility in customizing their device. But for most of us, Apple’s iOS devices are more than enough to make a great smartphone.

One last thing, if exploding phones should be brought up, let’s not forget the Note 7’s little mishap in 2016. According to USA Today, the Note 7’s blowing up resulted in 26 instances of burns, 55 instances of property damage, and 1 million of them being recalled in the U.S. alone. Just saying.
