New Class on Campus – AP Art History

A new class has been introduced to the curriculum. Art History AP taught by Ms. Miller is a class that focuses on all art forms.

“The class is really centered around how politics and religion affect art,” Ms. Miller said. “We look at art from all over the world, but it is slightly westernized.”

The class plans to take a field trip to the Menil museum where they will get a chance to study approximately 17,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs and rare books. The class has already taken an individual trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, each student going on their own time outside of school.

“It’s a great class to take to see what interests you, but it is a college course so it can be hard work,” Miller said.

A good portion of the class consists of lectures and a good grade may require a lot of studying, but completion of the course results in a college art credit.

“It’s a lot of note taking and studying, just like a college class,” Miller said.  “It’s good prep for college.”
