February 14, what others may call Valentine’s Day, originated as a western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus, the Saint of love. Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world. Although it is not a public holiday in any country, it is still one that is celebrated.

“I think Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate one with a loved one,” sophomore Sal Ramos said. “A day to kick back and show how much you really love and care for that person and to make them feel special.”

“The way I see it, if I was in a relationship, it’s a day to show your appreciation to that person,” freshman Mariana Trevino said. “For example, show your love to them, you know? You may give them some gifts but you don’t have to. It’s the thought that counts you know?” Trevino said.

Valentine’s Day is also a day to make memories and to get that sugar rush. Relationships or not, you could always spoil yourself and value that independence!
