Hoopin’ it up to a 1,000 point career
I never thought I was going to do it, it seemed impossible. But here I am,” senior Ricky Crawford said.
Ricky, also known as RJ is a varsity basketball player. He is a 3-year-letterman and made the first all-district team last year as a junior. Recently, RJ hit a huge milestone in his basketball career, he scored 1,000 career points playing at Langham.
“I had never really thought about it too much,”Crawford said. “I knew I was close before the Cy Springs game, so I did what I normally do; just hoop.”
Something you probably didn’t know about Crawford is that his brother Jerome Segura, also scored over 1,000 points in his high school career just like Ricky did. He went to Fairfield university to play basketball. Jerome was also an all-district player. “I would definitely credit him for my success on the court,” RJ said.
As of this time Crawford does not have any offers, but he has interest from a couple of schools such as Corpus Christi.
Unfortunately, Crawford’s season with the Lobos came to an end with a tough loss to Vandegrift High School, led by Greg Brown, the number 9 player in the country according to ESPN top 100 rankings. At the end of the game Brown walked up to Crawford to show his respect towards him. After the final buzzer sounded Brown was interviewed and was asked about Crawford, he said, “he’s a great player man, one of the best I’ve ever played against. He can shoot the ball, get to the basket, and is very crafty.”
