After only having a four week season in the last school year, the wrestling team has returned to their normal four month season this year. 

“The team is probably in the best shape it’s been in several years,” senior captain Caden Lopez said. “Between our friendship and skills, we have high hopes for this year.”

So far, both the boys’ and girls’ team has competed in the Cavalier Clash, Cypress Ridge Classic, College Park Clash and the Maverick Stampede.

“We’ve gotten 5th place at the Cavalier Clash,” senior Sebastian Lara said. “We got 3rd place at another tournament.”

The team is aiming to place at finals later on in the season, but in the meantime, they are working to perfect their craft. 

“As a team, we want to be ranked in the State Top Ten,” Lopez said.

The newcomers thus far have also been working to grasp the concept of wrestling.

“We have a lot of new people so it’s really hard to have an experienced lineup right now,” senior captain Annika Gotlieb said. “But we’re teaching them every day, definitely technique wise, conditioning wise.”
