Both the varsity football and varsity volleyball teams won after battling slow starts in each game on Friday, September 8th. Football beat Cy-Ridge in a convincing manner 43-21 after being down 14-10 at halftime. Volleyball also beat Bridgeland in a nail biter to open district play in 5 sets after dropping the first 2 sets.
Volleyball has been on a roll, winning 17 of their last 19 games. They faced a big struggle when down 2-0 against Bridgeland.
“We realized we did not want to lose to Bridgeland yet another year,” senior Carly Dupuis said. “We have talked so high of winning the game and we realized that we need to actually stick to our word and show out.”
It’s safe to say that the team showed out to start district play 1-0 against a highly respected team.
“We all just felt an overwhelming passion for the game and each other,” Dupuis said.
Volleyball has continued their momentum onto games after, winning 4 in a row since district play has started.
Football also had to comeback to win their game against Cy-Ridge after a slow start to the game.
“We got a little ahead of ourselves in the first half,” senior Julian Espinoza said. “Mainly just mental mistakes.”
The team learned from their first half mental mistakes, and turned them into points on the scoreboard to end the game with the score of 43-21.
The football team’s next game is against the Bridgeland Bears on September 21st at 6:30 at the Berry Center.
“You know, coming in and we’re going to send a message to the district, especially with this last win,” Espinoza said. “But, I think what’s going to set the bar for this district play is this first district game.”
Both volleyball and football came from behind to win important games. The volleyball teams next games are at Cy-Ranch on the 26, and football plays Bridgeland on the 21st and Cy-Falls on the 30th. Let’s all support the Lobo Nation and cheer on our fall sports!
