With a new school year comes new freshmen actors and crew members to the theatre ensemble. On September 22, the latest members of the ensemble performed in their first high school show, Fresh Faces, and made their faces known to the school.
What makes Fresh Faces different from other productions is that it is a play composed of multiple shows directed by the theatre officers, upperclassmen who have experience in high school theatre.
“[Directing the show] was intimidating because it was my first experience and I didn’t know if I could do it well,” junior Kelsey Duskie said. “But I thought it was worth a try, and it was a fun experience.”
Along with giving the officers an opportunity to to grow their directing skills, this director-actor relationship gave the freshmen a sense of ease, being instructed by students not far from their own age group.
“It felt comfortable instead of having a teacher yell at me about forgetting my lines,” freshman Kamrey Barber said.
Participating in Fresh Faces provided valuable lessons for everyone involved.
“[One thing I learned from this show is] that you have to be very specific,” Duskie said “You can’t be vague or else they’re [the cast] not gonna get what you’re saying.”
The show also gifted the cast and crew with opportunities to create friendships and long lasting memories.
“[My favorite part about being in the show was] meeting new people and making new connections,” Barber said. “One of the kids was in my class, and now I’m friends with him.”
