As the 2023-2024 seniors are getting ready to put their caps and gowns on, the hallways and classrooms they walk through are slowly fading into memory. The four years they’ve had here have shaped them into who they are today, and hopefully, they’ll carry the lessons and skills they’ve learned into what will become their adulthood and future.
High school is a different experience for all who go through it, each person has their own perspective and story to tell. Kleu Pham says that she wants to major in nursing and school has given her opportunities to help prepare for that transition.
“I’ve been in Orchestra since 6th grade; it’s taught me people skills, and I definitely need people skills for that,” Pham said. “I’m also in this club called ‘Hands for Hope’. We make prosthetic hands for kids who don’t have hands.”
With the opportunities school provides, Pham isn’t the only student that has been pushed toward the direction they want to take in the future.
“There’s a preschool class here, where you get to take care of four year olds. We had a field trip recently where we got to go to a ranch with them,” Geraldine Campos said. “The class made me realize I want to be around kids, so I want to be a pediatrician.”
School is a place to educate and prepare you for the future, and teachers have a part in the way you connect with your lessons. They might even teach you lessons that’ll become a lasting memory to be responsible and wise with your decisions.
“Sometimes when you turn in your work late, they tell you that in college they’re not going to do that for you,” Gaelle Kazzi said. “That’s taught me that you have to turn in your work on time and that you’re not always going to get extended time for your assignments.”
As the last chapter of high school is coming to a close, it’s important to remember the beginning of your story. Catch up on the memories of your freshman year, whether they were bad experiences or something you could have a good laugh about.
“My freshman year, I was on the swim team,” Gael Cabera said. “One of my friends dove off and kind of fell in a funny way. It was the loudest back flop I’ve ever heard. Also, our last concert for orchestra, we had a sword fight in the middle of the concert and it was pretty fun.”
In the four years of high school, you have an overall total of 28 classes. Each class will prepare you for your next course of education. Some classes might stick out more than others. The teacher and students are what can make your favorite class your favorite.
“Our teacher, Ms. Wong, she’s an amazing person and very bubbly when we walk into class,” Andrea Flores said. “She makes me want to keep coming back to school with all the senioritis going on, she’s the reason I keep coming back to school.”
