As the holidays are approaching, the list of presents to buy for loved ones seems to have no end. One unique gift idea is a handmade ceramic sculpture, carefully crafted by the ceramics students. Ceramics Club held a holiday sale on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during all lunches to promote the club and showcase their original pieces.
“My teacher really wanted to expand and gather money so we can go on field trips and take our class and club to explore more art,” Ceramics Club Vice President Paulina Diaz said.
In addition to field trips to art museums and galleries, the funds from the sale will help Ceramics Club pay for supplies such as clay and paint. Students can expect “a lot of variety” in the artworks at the sale.
“There’s gonna be vases, small stuff,” Diaz said. “A lot of people have made miniature things like cats; there’s also plates and big bowls.”
Small pieces are priced at $10, medium pieces are $20, large pieces are $30, and plates are $12. Students can make purchases from these size categories on SchoolCash and bring their receipts to the sale to select their pieces or scan the QR codes at the table to pay there.
“You just buy whatever size you want and during lunch you can see and pick whatever item you want from the category you picked,” Diaz said.
The sales will be run by volunteers and students with leadership positions in Ceramics Club, who spread the word about the upcoming event.
“We promoted [the sale] on the announcements and on our social media, @fireituplobos,” Diaz said. “We post about when the meetings are and pieces that people from the club have made and overall events and important news that people should know.”
With a goal of $2000, Ceramics Club hopes to sell as much as they possibly can and expand their organization to greater opportunities in the future.
