Swinging into the District Season
Varsity baseball opened up their district season with a home game against Cy-Woods on March 7th. Unfortunately, they lost the game 9-4.
Now that the first-game-jitters are out of the way, the boys have high hopes for the season. And after falling in the state semis last summer, they are more determined than ever.
“I’m excited to see how we will do this year,” sophomore Aaron Sweet said. “With a lot of practice and determination, we can be just as good as we were last year.”
Coach Sedeno lost some talent from last season’s team, and he also lost his assistant, Coach Cephus, to a head coaching position at Cy-Ranch. However, we will still see some solid returners, and hopefully clench a spot in play-offs.
“I believe we’ll make it,” pitcher Garrett Lax said. “But we’re going to have to work very hard for it.”
The boys spend 3 hours a day, 6 days a week up at the fields practicing their skills and preparing for weekly games.
“Practices help us clean up our mistakes,” Lax said. “They provide us a chance to perfect our craft in order to do the best we can in every game.”
The team participated in 2 tournaments during preseason. They did well in the first tournament, ending with a 5-1-1 record. Though they struggled in the second, finishing 1-4.
“I think once we pull it together and get our confidence back, we will get the job done and hopefully be one of the top teams in the district,” Lax said.
