Working Toward a Track 3 peat

It’s that time of year again. The time of year that determines who’s the fastest, who can jump the highest and furthest, who can throw the farthest.

A 3 peat district championship is on the line this season for our track team. Head track coach Matthew Buchhorn is the newest addition to the coaching staff and is eager to bring a 3 peat championship to Lobo Nation.

“We have a lot of athletic kids, I think the biggest thing for us is just figuring out how to motivate those kids to work as a team and accomplish the goals we need to do when we get to the state meet,” Coach Buchhorn said.

“I think Coach B knows what he’s doing and can turn some football kids into some great track stars,” senior Eric Edwards said.

The season hasn’t even started yet, but the team is ranked 4th in the pre-season.

“I definitely think this year is gonna be a challenge just because we did lose a lot of our senior runners last year. We have a good core coming back but we’re gonna have to rely on some underclassmen, which is gonna be difficult. But if we can get them to buy in and really understand what we’re trying to do and work hard, I think it’s definitely possible,” Coach Buchhorn said.

The track team has been training since early November, giving it their all to get bigger, faster, stronger.  The team strives for their 3rd straight district championship.

The track season kicked off Saturday, February 10th at Cypress Ridge High School and the team is locked and ready to go this season.
