Drake Ranks the State’s: (Football Recruits edition)

10.Arizona-Arizona is typically an afterthought when it comes to high profile Football recruits, however, they are one of the more consistent states when it comes to producing quality football recruits. A majority of the players are in the 3-4 star range but with players such as former 5-stars: N’keal Harry, and Christian Kirk, Arizona also has produced some elite players.

9.Maryland-In the world of recruiting in college football, Maryland is a major power in the Northeast. With perineal powerhouse DeMatha Catholic churning out college football athletes year after year, in addition to the state producing players such as Vikings, and Former Maryland Terrapins star Steffon Diggs, and Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins, the state is stock full of blue-chip players year in and year out.

8.Alabama-In a world where Alabama is seemingly winning a National Championship every other year, their success begins with recruiting and they don’t have to look to far to find some elite talent. With neighboring states such as Florida and Georgia soaking up most of the recruiting buzz in the Southeast, some of Alabama’s high-profile recruits go under the radar. In 2017 alone Alabama produced 3 5-stars (LeBryan Ray, T.D. Moultry, and Henry Ruggs III).

7.New Jersey-New Jersey isn’t exactly the first state that comes to mind when you think of football; however it is a state that has been producing some top tier players recently with players such as former Alabama star Minkah Fitzpatrick, Michigan stud Jabrill Peppers, and former number 1 overall recruit Rashan Gary coming out of the state. In the Northeast, New Jersey, despite being the new kid on the block, is the king in producing football talent.

6.Pennsylvania-Here’s a number for you: 4. That’s how many 1st team All-Americans have come from the state of Pennsylvania in the past 3 years. Here’s another one: 5. That’s how many 1st round picks have come out of the state of Pennsylvania in the past 3 years: Saquon Barkley, Mike McGlinchey, Malik Hooker, D.J. Moore, and Will Fuller were all produced by the state of Pennsylvania. Quality over quanity is the name of the game when it comes to the recruiting scene in Pennsylvania; and the quality is some of the best in the nation.

5.Louisiana-Louisiana is the last state before the heavy weights; and they are well on their way to making that group a little bit larger. Louisiana, much like Pennsylvania produces elite, blue-chip players at the top of recruiting boards year after year. In the past the state has produced talents such as Leonard Fournette, and Darius Guice. Since 2014 LSU has produced 7 players ranked in the top 20 of their class.

4.Georgia-Georgia is among the best when it comes to producing both quality and a quantity of blue-chip players. Since 2014 Georgia has produced 18 5-star players, had the #1overall player twice (2015, and 2018), and has had 49 players in the top 100. Those numbers represent a massive gap between the big 4 and everybody else.  Notable players from Georgia include: Deshaun Watson, Nick Chubb, and Jake Fromm.

3.California-The king of producing college football players in the west is none other than California.  This should come as no surprise; in a 2 year period (2014-2015) California produced elite talents such as Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Juju Smith-Schuster, Adoree’ Jackson, and Royce Freeman among others.  In total California has produced 18 5-stars in the last 5 cycles.

2.Texas-Florida. No Texas!  The long debate over who produces the best football talent is one with compelling cases on both sides, but this time Texas takes the 2nd spot from the top; never the less, Texas is incredible when it comes to churning out football players.  Over the past 5 years the state of Texas has produced 18 5-stars, and 64 players in the top 100.  Another insane stat: in the 2017 NFL Draft 4 players from the 2014 class from Texas were drafted in the top 10. That’s 40 %.

1.Florida-In my list Florida comes in at #1 when it comes to producing Football talent.  The numbers are ridiculous.  In 2015 the state of Florida produced 8 5-stars, in addition to 14 players in the top 100.  2 years later they produced 4 5-stars, and 16 players in the top 100; and the numbers get crazier.  Over the past 5 years 22 5-star football players have come out of the state of Florida; that means that about 1 out of every 7 players that are 5-stars come from the state of Florida.  In addition to supplying the most 5-star players, Florida also has produced 70 players in the top 100 rankings over the last 5 years.  Simply put: No state can match Florida’s dominance when it comes to producing elite football players.
