Trash at Langham

The cafeteria is often riddled with trash after lunch, and it is common for the principal and his assistants to clean said trash. They do this because of the small time between lunches, and it is not helpful that students leave food on, under, and around tables.

“I would prefer if students would pick up their own trash after they are done,” principal Mr. Hughes said. “I don’t only pick up lunch trash; I also clean up trash around campus in general.”

According to Mr. Hughes, the problem is not as bad as people think.

“C lunch first semester was a bit of a problem, but they have gotten better this semester regarding the trash,” said Mr. Hughes.

There have been some things the school has done to minimize the amount of trash at the school.

“The patio has gotten bad to the point we had to close it,” said Mr. Hughes. “Lifting some tables have also been a policy we put in motion to prevent this amount of trash.”

Mr. Hughes and his assistant principals have to clean the trash because of the number of custodians at the school.

“There are some students who help me, which helps. With only three custodians at this school, there wouldn’t be enough time for them to clean up all the trash in the twenty-minute window provided between lunch,” said Mr. Hughes. “Rights come with responsibilities”.
