The Langham Creek Varsity swim team attended Varsity Districts this past Saturday, the boys finished in second place and the girls placed in third. While this meet was the last one for some swimmers, others are going to swim at Regionals, hoping to make it to State.

Langham Creek hosted the event and competed against five other schools in district.

“Varsity Districts is always fun,” junior Chloe Lapina said.

Lapina has been on Varsity swim since her freshman year and competed in Varsity Districts for the third time. She was able to win a place in the top eight swimmers for almost all of her events.

“We got eight gold medals during the day out of four Individuals and one Relay,” Head Coach McDaniel said. “We finished in the top three for all of our Relays.”

The athletes like winning but also find it enjoyable to spend time together and with the other teams.

“Districts is a really fun experience. Next to racing and pushing to the limits, the team spirit is what really makes it special,” senior Emily Berlin said.

However, for some swimmers the season is now over.

“We had seventeen different swimmers make it to Regionals in Individuals and Relay events. Out of the twenty-four possible events to go to Regionals, our team is sending someone in nineteen of them,” McDaniel said.

Only the first six in each event went to Regionals and only the fastest swimmers will make it to State.

“I hope not to get last and drop some time,” Lapina said.

Next to the swimmers winning medals or ribbons, the coaches also had a chance to gain an award.

“It’s really because of what the boys did, but I did get awarded Boys Coach of the Year for District 18 in CFISD,” McDaniel said.

The Regional Prelims took place on Friday, February 1st, and the finals, where only the fastest sixteen of each event are going to compete was the following day.
