Art exhibit at Berry Center

The room was crowded. Proud parents tried to keep up with their kids and find which out of the thousand colorful pictures lining the walls belonged to their child. The artwork  ranged from 12th graders to kindergarteners. Students met up with friends they saw only hours before. This was the Cy-Fair District Art Show. There were over 3,600 people who went to the Berry Center to see the art.

The district show is a yearly exhibit that showcases artwork ranging from photography, painting, and sculpture. Each teacher could only put in 15 of their student’s pieces as a whole. Our own school had entries of art that you may have seen if you ever went down the hallway by the east entrance. The one with the mural of the Lobo walking through the halls of the school.

“A lot of my work comes from my AP students,” photography teacher Mr. Smith said. “It’s held every year and I’ve been here six years.”

Julissa Gonzalez, Alex Martinez, Angel Palacios were some of the names of photography students Mr. Smith mentioned.

The K-through-12 Visual Arts Coordinator Lee Carrier sent out an email to all who helped to thank and share some important news from the district leadership team meeting (held monthly for principals, ISC administrators, the police department, and our superintendent at the Berry Center).

“I was given the opportunity to stand up in front of the whole group with the microphone to thank the board associate supers, communications and productions departments for attending and promoting our event to the public,” Lee said. “In addition, Dr. Henry stated during his speech this morning that he fully supports us.”

“If you think about it like this, we are trying to show the best of our program, so the work that stands out, that work is really amazing,” ” Smith said.

So next year if you want to see amazing art,  just come on out to the district art show.
