When you are a student, there is always one teacher you can count on to make your day brighter or just improve your mood. To recognize the teachers who have made a specific impact on their students, the “Teacher of the Month” program was created. Students were able to fill out a form nominating their favorite teachers for this program, establishing the October lineup.

“The nomination encourages me,” World History Teacher John Reed said. “It makes me feel like I’m doing at least one thing right.”

For Dance Teacher Brynae Love-Young, her openness to her students and effort in their relationship with her landed her a spot on the nomination list.

“I believe that I was nominated because I’m willing to help all students no matter their background or what level they learn at,” Love said. “I think that they [my students] see me as approachable and willing to listen to them, hear them out, and help them. As much as they pour into me, I pour back into them, so it’s a great relationship.”

Similarly, Physics Teacher Andrew Tsai makes communication and connections with his students a priority in his day-to-day classes.

“Having real conversations means a lot to me, and I hope it means a lot to them,” Tsai said. “I try not to make it about physics every day and focus on more important things like life; teenagers have a lot of stuff going on in their lives, so getting through that stuff matters a lot.”

Teacher of the Month drives teachers to do what they do best and grow as teachers every day.

“[This nomination gives me] more motivation… to continue to do what I’m doing,” Love said. “It’s hard to teach, but it’s worth it to know that students need me and I need them as much.”
