Rehearsing movements for the competition Saturday, Agustin Tax practices the second movement of the show.

The UIL marching competition this Saturday is the last before their performance at Area October 29th. They will be performing their show the Gilded Cage which has music from the movie Signs, Young and Beautiful and Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty.

“Its musical its moving it’s about beauty and really evokes emotion,” junior trumpet player Kevin Skillman said.

The band has been working on their show since the beginning of August and has had practices every week since.

“It’s definitely the most physically demanding show I’ve ever been in and I’m a junior,” tuba player Dalton Avalos said.

The competition is based off the UIL scoring system, with a scale of 1-5 for various categories, 1 being the best score. Getting all ones in every category they earn is rewarded with a sweepstakes trophy.

“We’ve all been working really hard for this competition and I think we’ll do very well,” junior Ariana Gamarra said.

This is the band’s third competition this marching season. They almost advanced to finals at the competition, Bands of America,  and at the competition Battle at the Berry, the band scored first in their division.

“We scored first at the last competition and I think we will do even better this competition because we’ve worked so hard,” junior tuba player Dalton Avalos said.
