Construction for the baseball and softball turf is nearing completion. They are expecting it to be complete before the new season starts.

“The biggest reason why they’re adding the turf is because of weather problems,” Coach Micheal Shott said. “We had some scrimmages and some games canceled because of the rain.”

The upkeep of the grass field was quite costly.

“You’re saving on maintenance, the overall cost,” Coach Armando Sedeno said. “It’s big at the front end, but in the long run, you don’t have to water or mow. You save a lot of money.”

Many players and coaches battled with obstacles throughout the last season.

“The last game we played cost us the playoffs,” baseball player Dylan Yanes said. “It pissed me off.. because I knew we could’ve done better.”

Because of the rain, they had to postpone the game during the last inning and continue the game on the next day.

“It was really hard for the seniors because it was their last year and they weren’t able to go to the playoffs due to that one game they lost,” baseball player Emilio Rodrigez said.

The turf will be an advantage for the new season.

“We are confident that we will go to the playoffs this season,” Sedeno said. “Every school that received turf during the first phase went to the playoffs so we are more likely to go.”

Having the turf will be a big motivation for the team.

“We are excited for this season because the turf will bring more people to the games and a lot of motivation in the players,” Shott said.
